Still Cooling it Off

I've been having a lovely time here in Tamarindo.  The weather is absolutely perfect every minute of every day.  Flo and I have fallen into a retired lifestyle where we get up at six and within an hour we are walking on the beach.  We have one or two light meals a day in restaurants and eat at home lots too.  We've been totally on our own since we arrived and tomorrow our alone time will come to an end.  Our first guest, my nephew, will arrive tomorrow followed by my hubby's adult granddaughter and her boyfriend.  Finally the holiday will end with my brother and his wife joining us. I have been abstaining from alcohol and it's been a slippery slope.  Being in Costa Rica's hottest tourist town and constantly eating in bars/restaurants has wrecked havoc on my resolve.  I've been iffy many times over the past week.  But I'm not drinking.  I am not toking as much as I do at home either. I am finally getting my groove and the next challen...

Waves Crashing

I've been feeling lethargic lately.  It's the heat and I've eaten too much raw fish.  My belly is sore as the little critters work their way around my intestines.  I have to find a health food store tomorrow to buy some Black Walnut to kill off anything that I may have picked up. After a few days of avoiding the beach because of this lethargy we finally got to the wildness that is Tamarindo Beach and played in the smashing water.  It was absolutely invigorating and really improved my mood. Imagine feeling down in a tropical paradise.  But it happens.. when the body crashes then the mind can soon follow. On the mend after this little hiccup and not drinking. I am having some silent times and reading my spiritual books. Namaste

Costa Rica for Six Weeks

I am darn lucky to be able to spend the worst six weeks of Canadian winter in Tamarindo, Costa Rica. We've worked hard to be able to afford this but hubby and I do appreciate our good fortune in all the reasons we are able to do this. First off, we are relatively healthy. I am perfectly healthy and hubby has made a magnificent recovery from his emergency aortic dissection of two years ago.  We came very close to losing him and he was sick for over a year but we have him back and, although travel insurance cost us an arm and a leg we budgeted for it which brings us to our second blessing. We can afford it. We've run a construction business together for close to twenty years and made some decisions based on knowledge and experience but, not coincidently, also based on trust, generosity and love.  Yes, love!  I do not take credit for this as I've always had a love/hate relationship with Hubby's generosity.  He is always the guy to pick up the tab or to bring twe...

I Am Good

One thing have to keep reminding myself is that my favourite pastime is to hurl abuse at myself.  I look for every opportunity to do so and this Quest to find Little Raven Healer can't fall victim to this practice of mine. My sister scolded me today telling me harshly that my New Years Resolution should be to leave myself the Hell ALONE!!  She reacted to a comment I made about having to lose two pounds.  She is struggling with her weight so I know I struck a chord with her.  (Note to self: was this intentional?  Sad if it was but I do know it was subconscious if it was). It was reminder to stay true to the theme of this week.  I am Good.  I am a whole person with strengths and weaknesses.  I am inconsistent but I'm not giving up.  I overindulge and I eat well. I sometimes do both at the same time. I have some brilliant ideas.  I act on few.  I am hoping that, as Little Raven Healer emerges, so will my creative spirit and willi...

Morning Ritual

I know that the most important tool I have at my disposal to invite Little Raven Healer to gradually emerge is the establishment of a simple morning routine filled with tiny rituals. These morning rituals include silence, affirmations, visualization, exercise, reading and scribing (conveniently spelling the word (S-A-V-E-R-S for handy reference. I've challenged myself to complete a SAVERS routine each day in whatever order works best.  I know that I cannot drag myself out of bed before the sun rises to immediately start jumping on my rebounder.  But if I put the rebounder in a prominent place and keep it there I'll either eventually trip over it or put in the 4 eight minute jumping sessions that I've determined as a minimal requirement in the exercise area of my well being. The silence is easy but clearing my mind of thought is the challenge.  I go easy on myself and gently call my mind back to the nothingness of being whenever it strays during the short ten minutes...

Who is Little Raven Healer?

She is weird... in a good way.  She does not have a dark side. She stays in the moment she is in; she lives there.  Her plans have ~ space ~ between them and each plan has a beginning, a middle and and ending.  She follows through. Her word is true, her promises kept along with any confidences shared wth her.  She advises only when asked.  She never meddles. Her mornings begin early and include the Rituals of Silence, Affirmations, Visualization, Exercise, Reading and Scribing. Her cold winter afternoons and evenings are spent creating crocheted, knitted gifts, learning Spanish or Piano, reading and writing. When the sun shines she partakes in meandering strolls along the river, gardening, walking barefoot, sitting in her secret garden, feeding the birds, playing with her grandchildren. She honours her Indigenous heritage by drumming, smudging, listening to native music and attending PowWows, Woman's Circles and Sweat Lodges. She wears loose flowin...

Finding Me

She was tired; so very bone weary.  The tiny, white haired, mother of three, grandmother of seven and dedicated wife to a man struggling with his health was tired of fighting the urgent call to finally birth her true, authentic self in all her messy glory.  She had lived her entire life being of service to her family and pushing aside her feelings of frustration and incompleteness. Her time was ripe.  She was 62.  Her life had been an adventure so far. Her personality was such that things happened around her.  Her life was so full that she disappointed people on a regular basis by overcommitting constantly.  She was a good enough person to recognize this as a fault as opposed to a plus in her life.  Being so busy that you double book and cancel constantly is a selfish way to live. she had decided many times to change her lifestyle but she was plagued by bad habits that she constantly revisited just to sabotage herself. Drinking messed with her mo...
